Day 128: Rain!!

First, I want to thank Doug Boggs so much for the amazing gift, the free steak (HUGE ribeye!!) and for all of his support during this trip. It was great to see another familiar face out here on the road.

It finally rained on me!! I am so excited about that little tidbit. I have been praying for rain so much during the past 7 weeks of intense heat, and it finally came. Today's run was quite refreshing. The overcast skies and cool breeze kept me cool most of the day. And finally, about 10 miles in, the sky opened up, and the rain fell!! Not just a little sprinkle, like the one other time I felt a rain-ish like substance, but a full on downpour. Although it only lasted for 4 miles of the run, the rain did so much for my energy level. It also served to cool the temps off for the entire day, as they settled around 75 degrees for the run. Great stuff, and definitely needed. Running through the cool rain, I was reminded of another song that has meant so much to me these past few years. It is amazing how much certain songs seem to mirror my life. Maybe I just look for meaning in lyrics more than most people, but music is certainly the soundtrack to my life. Anyway, I figured I'd post the lyrics to the song, and maybe some of you have felt the same in your own lives. The song is by Trace Adkins and is titled "Muddy Water". Enjoy.

Eighteen wheeler dropped me off at that city limits sign
Sunday morning sunlight hurt my eyes
It's a long way from where I been back to my home town
But there's a man in me I need to drown

Baptize me in that muddy water
Wash me clean in amazing grace
I ain't been living like I 'aughta
Baptize me in that muddy water

Made my way to the church at the end of the dirt road
Dragging what was left of my soul
I could see the saints out back on the river bank
And I could hear forgiveness calling out my name

Baptize me in that muddy water
Wash me clean in amazing grace
I ain't been living like I 'aughta,
So baptize me in that muddy water

Baptize me in that muddy water
Wash me clean in amazing grace
I ain't been living like I 'aughta,
Baptize me in that muddy water

Baptize me in that muddy water
Yeah, wash me clean in that muddy water, water
In that muddy water
Baptize me
